Beyond the Books: Mastering IT CareerSwitch - From Interviews to Triumph

07/12/2023

So, I found myself in a peculiar situation with IT CareerSwitch. Instead of handing me a job on a silver platter, they played matchmaker—sending me job opportunities and encouraging applications. Don't get me wrong; the jobs they sent were decent, but I was on a mission. I wanted to prove not just what I'd learned but how good I could be in the real-world trenches, despite my minimal practical experience.

After about two months, I landed my first interview, a phone call sparked by a job I stumbled upon on LinkedIn. The recruiter liked what she heard, forwarded my details to the hiring manager, and voila—my first interview. The next day, another interview with a different company, and so the cycle continued. Four interviews deep, and the hiring manager from the first one wanted me for an on-site interview—split into behavioral and technical questions, a total of 40 inquisition-style queries.

Hopeful but nervous, I left the interview room and crossed my fingers. When the news came that I passed and the job was mine, I canceled another prospective job for the following day. I officially landed my first IT job—IT Support Engineer, Client Help Desk, Tier 2 Support—you name it, it's on my plate.

Now, the real adventure begins. Remember when I said I wanted a job that would let me prove my mettle? Well, this is it. In the next part, I'll unravel the tale of how I navigated the first days on the job and discovered the challenges and triumphs of real-world IT support.
